The Stockade Story
Proudly Australian and independent, Stockade Brewery occupies a unique space in the Australian craft beer scene.
Originating in 2013, initially as Macarthur Grange Brewery operating via “BrewPack” - a large independent contract brewer from Smeaton Grange in NSW.
During 2015 the Macarthur range was retired to make way for the more progressive and adventurous brand we now know as Stockade Brew Co.
Throughout the years Stockade has rolled out an impressive roster of core and limited-edition award-winning brews. Starting with Gold medal wins at the 2015 Sydney Royal show.
The first seasonal creation was a German Gose-style, infused with 200 kilograms of peaches, salt and coriander! Creativity only escalated from there, with a smoked jalapeño porter to juniper infused wit-bier to two-year-old whisky barrel-aged imperial stout.
Numerous other accolades and awards have been achieved along the way, including the title of “World’s Best Imperial Stout” at the UK-based World Beer Awards in 2015 and beating more than a hundred other brewers to take out the coveted People’s Choice award at the 2017 GABS festival for The Mountie, the Maple Imperial Stout. It was this combination of new brews while teaming with local designers to create some of the most creative beer labels on the market which separated Stockade from the pack.
PREVIOUS AWARD WINNERS
In 2018 the holding company BrewPack became known as Tribe Breweries, relocating to a massive new state of the art facility in Goulburn, while simultaneously opening the Stockade Barrel Room in Marrickville for its local punters. With a small brewery enclosed and a rack of barrels filled with aging brews, it was the perfect location to trial and experiment.
The venue in Marrickville quickly became a popular destination for the everyday drinker or enthusiast wanting to try an “exclusive” new brew. The Barrel room even had a starring role in the popular Australian hit series “Colin from Accounts” in 2022.
Good times at the Barrel room Marrickville
Post Covid challenges necessitated closing the Marrickville location in 2023, with the brand effectively making a “tree change”, relocating to Goulburn where the parent company Tribe Breweries resides.
Retaining our wealth of expertise and brewing credentials, we also relocated the brewing kit from Marrickville. This move provided our highly skilled team with the ongoing opportunity to experiment and craft fresh new brews, keeping Stockade at the forefront of brewing innovation.
To make its local mark, a new “mid-strength” lager – Ducks Lane, was launched incorporating the iconic merino, brewery and its street name into the design. Now integrating itself into the regional area of Goulburn and its communities, Stockade will continue to craft beers for everyone, be it the beer nerd, or everyday sipper. We stand true and strong to our original motto:
